Omega, augments and game mechanics abuse

What's this?!

Pretty insane Omega, we got 3/4 chips for the next set from gunpods, no RDM af though :<

Sadly I'm back to the bottom of the ladder for Nashira again, plus with lectures starting again next week I'll probably only be able to make half the runs (though I could do some apollyon soloing for coins/af+1 if I miss tuesdays).

Anyway, some recent augments!

Sky FoV. Only got enough tabs for one more attempt :(

Fei'yin ACP. Nothing to see here.

Some new NM in Upper Delkfutt's Juli wanted. Turns out you can just abuse the porter to lose hate completely even when it's stood on top of you. It can be dot-soloed this way but obviously will be longer and incredibly boring. No drop for us of course. I'm assuming I don't get banned for doing this, as it follows the same principle of zone/dot/nuke, which has been around since the game started. Though this particular strategy probably wouldn't work if the NM wasn't magic aggro only.

I've been doing some fishing as well!

I found insect paste for 30 gil each at the fishing guild so I went to get me some moat carps. It's better money than the random crap I'd fished up at ports but I still don't think the money is worth the time investment. I won't bother turning them in for the Lu Shang's quest because it's a 20 gil loss per fish, and it probably works out better to sell your fish and buy the rod at the AH (3.3mil minus about 200k in tax from fish, rod is 2.9~3mil) although if you already had a bit of money, it would be faster to catch some of your own and buy some carps off the AH.

I want to find a way to farm gil, the only reason I'm reluctant to spend anything is because I know I don't have a way to make my money back :(

I can't really go back to my old routine of harvesting/farming in Giddeus because that was VERY inventory-intensive and probably not very profitable anymore because people don't need low-level crafting ingredients. Also, clothcraft is useless mid-level because nobody needs stat-less mid level gear anymore, and nobody cares enough about leveling to augment their level 50 gear if they know it will be replaced in 5~10 levels.

Also, zomg skillups

Should be level 10 soon ;o

Move over, boyahda tree?

Found a much better spot for skillups/latent breaks - upper delkfutts!

Mostly EP~DC mobs, but they aren't hard if you're on a half decent self-sufficient job (NIN, PLD/DNC, RDM, DRG/mage, etc). Plus you get a chance at doing Pallas or Alky for free bracelets! Pallas is a little harder, at least for DRG because he keeps calling a pet which does about the same damage and can interrupt you. Alky hits a little harder (and does mighty strikes) but is no problem for drg.

The downsides to this place are magic aggro around the middle, and there's nothing around Even Match level (unless you skillup on Alky) so you won't be able to cap skills here. Also bracelets have a low drop rate, and Pallas's aren't really worth very much anyway, not to mention you need the NM pop item to drop first from normal gigas. I'm probably only fond of the camp because Alky dropped for us, so that's 400k each as long as the price doesn't crash :x

Also, a crap ton of socks dropped, so I kept them for desynthing into wool thread, which can be quite profitable (<3 satchel)

...well, that is if you don't break 90% of your synths.

This is why I rage quit crafting. Desynths are often a nice way to make money back, but you fail a crapload more when your crafting skill goes above the skill cap for the desynth, which makes perfect sense. 7 fails in a row, and then only one NQ success should not be something that occurs on a recipe that is 20 levels below your current skill.

Augment attempts have been kicking me in the teeth since I got that free p.rope as well:

I don't know why they even allow some of this junk to exist. Surely they can at least tell when an item will be 100% useless?

Fishing on the other hand, has been kind to me. I've been going through 1~2 stacks of bait when I go to Jeuno for ACP keys if I have time, and before Limbus because I'm poor and need it to pay for my airship ticket. I got level 4~5 in one sitting!

The version update 'teaser' got my hopes up for fishing adjustments, but it's just a buff for the Ebisu rod, which is already the best rod available and extremely difficult to obtain anyway (think Lu Shangs +1). Also lolbells and some crappy JP equivalent of the cheese sandwich (I bet it will have more useful effects than the cheese sandwich, because SE are like that). This is looking to be the biggest let-down of a version update ever, unless they announce something insane on Monday. Don't hold your breath.

It's been a long road...

Along which I've broken so many rods, lost so many fish, bait and lures.

I have tested the very limits of my resolve waiting, not idly - but with complete focus, for that all important, but ever-so-subtle tug on the line, then gave it my all; every time something, anything, caught that line I would give blood, sweat and tears until there were none left to give until finally, my quarry was mine.

My prey defeated, I reel in the line triumphantly to collect my spoils, this single fish, the final one of so many hundreds that honed my abilities over the past 4 years, this little fish that fought back taught me enough to break the threshold of my skill to arrive at the absolute goal of my unerring ambition.

Fishing level 3.
