Moogles, Merits and Medals.

MKD spoilers ahead, be warned. Not that it matters anymore because people just read about it on the wiki ahead of doing missions anyway.

Despite it being a week since I've really done anything, I've managed to do alot in the past couple of days, including beating the moogle expansion~

Chamber of Oracles fight was a bit rough, since the boss spams a nasty TP move which you can see killed two of our DDs in the final moments (because I started nuking, haha!) but other than that it's a simple sleepga > kill adds > fight boss > repeat.

This is then followed by some interesting, but still long-winded quests (or mini games) which are interesting if only because it isn't kill X mobs for Y drop. The only downside is after you've spent an hour doing all the challenges and then fail the final BCNM, you need to repeat them all from scatch which makes it just as bad, if not worse than ACP in that regard.

Thankfully, I went 1/1 on the final fight, which is a relief because 4/6 members were Japanese and the leader was English-speaking. They still managed to explain the strategy quite admirably with the auto-translater. Though it probably sounded a horrible mess to the JP members I had a feeling they knew what they were doing anyway.

And they did! Because the boss spams heavy AoE damage and draw-in every time he hits 75%, the melee should do nothing to get hate on him for the majority of the fight to avoid pointless sponging (hence why we stand and watch on the stairs). Our 2 BLMs basically did most of the work, tanking the boss with stoneskin against a wall (because of knockback) and they were even able to rest because his normal attacks were too weak to break stoneskin. BLMs would nuke him down then sleepga the henchmen, which we dealt with. After 2 waves of henchmen, we slept the 3rd wave and finished the boss off with DDs and BLMs going all out.

All in all, it's a decent expansion, even though they've taken the bad points about ACP (re-collecting key items to repeat fights, competing for low-level mobs to farm) and made it even worse. At least the story wasn't as horrible, but the mid-level augmented items from the chest seem to be no good compared to ACP's augments.

Here's my kupo hat in my new DRG WS setup, it should give me plenty of accuracy now so I've ditched my acc rings for STR in my penta thrust set up as well. I'm still not sure about N.body vs ACP hauby (7 STR vs 10 att + 5 DEX) but at least the body/head combo match here.

The day before I did MKD, I was spamming Campaign battles out of boredom, and I wanted to play on DRG, and ended up getting myself a new medal, along with a T. whiteshell (plus other junk) from Union chests.

And I got enough EXP to finish my attributes merits

I could be criticised for not going 5/5 STR but there's bigger wastes.

Mumor 2: Moar mithra!

As it's my 200th entry, here's some nice artwork to celebrate:

SE is back to recycling events it seems, but adding mithra to them is never a bad thing ;o

Not much has gone on in the world of me, I've not even got any crappy augments to show off because I've not got one in days. Also not been online much because I'm lousy like that.

I did get up to the first BC fight for MKD, so I need to look for a group to attempt that. The prerequisite for it was the same as ACP's 'collect afterglows' missions except longer and more annoying (what a surprise). At least they made good use of the map markers for the first time since the adventurer cupon quest:

Why they never bothered using these for any other fetch ??? quests in the game is beyond me, perhaps they forgot (or, more likely, they want people to suffer and scour entire zones to find them by themselves).

*shakes fist*

You obtain a Map of the Quicksand Caves!

Only 13 months ago I got my last coffer key for the Quicksand Caves, and opted to use it for DRG AF. I never bothered going back for the map, because I didn't really need it but now with MKD you actually need that map to complete the missions.

After a jolly 2 hours of farming, I finally get the key to drop, and of course the coffer I've been farming around all that time has been opened, so I have to look for another.

Mog expansion is terrible. It seems every quest is either a really long tedious fetch quest, or forces you into a bottleneck to compete with other players for limited resources, or both. The cardian one is probably the only exception to this, as you can at least team up with other people so everyone can get the key items at once.

The story is better than ACP at the very least, but it doesn't take much to beat that nonsensical drivel.

I also had a go at the new weapon augment quest with a pick-up group that were shouting in whitegate.

The main guy is a bit annoying, because he's built like a brick wall and is unsleepable from the looks of it, so you have to kite/tank him (pld/nin with atonement is pretty nice for this) while the other DDs take down his wivre adds (which can be significantly slowed down by aoe attack down). He goes into a nasty headbutt-spam mode when he uses invincible (multiple times) which somehow one-shotted our pld on the third try. We still recovered and kited until weakness wore off, as it's incredibly easy to kite but it did lead to hate problems toward the end as I had to spam dispel along with being the only healer.

We did 3 runs, because there were other groups showing up, and we were already taking it in turns with 1 other group to do the fight (only 1 can go at a time) plus I had to go to dynamis, so that was cut short. As usual, I get junk augments until the 100th time, but this can get up to +5 damage and +3 STR/DEX which should beat my Thalassocrat. Obviously the best I get only matches a thalasso in DD stats, but is actually inferior due to the lack of evasion down additional effect. At least the DRG weapon is cheap.

Kupo expansion

I've been pretty quiet since the update, reason is I've been busy both in and out of the game. Less jolly reasons for out of game stuff, and that's saying something since 90% of this update I have only to complain about.

Farming Fantasy XI! I like my subtle additions to the MKD intro screen, courtesy of MS paint. I feel it reflects the true nature of the content.

Expect fun things like this while farming:

It's sad that I've come to expect these things by now and actually brought a whole stack of tools instead of 1~2 just to be safe.

Back to the usual luck with ACP augments, but fishing is level 6 now! Chances are I'll have fishing 100 before a good accuracy mantle. The worst part is with all these new-fangled high level augments about, you can get accuracy augmented onto an Amemet mantle or a foragers', but I'm not going to spam those at 200~400k a pop because you can still get negative stats and ruin your gear. Augments should be made like signatures so you can at least wipe them by AHing them, or make a quest to wipe augments off a piece of gear.

A couple of good things

An easily attainable strap gives me a gimp 6-hit at last without Rajas.

Obviously it's not ideal over a build with a Rajas ring, but it's a good tradeoff (6hit for the loss of 2% DA) for my current setup. I still have room for improvement, can add a PCC and get an ecphoria ring, as well as homam. Only downside is I don't (and won't) have enough store TP on wheeling thrust to make it to 100% with WS and 5 hits, I'll need one of those hits to be a jump. But who uses wheeling thrust anyway?

I've found these especially useful for catching up with my WoTG quests, so probably my favourite item from the update so far. Another warp addition to my satchel Dx
